Re-Elect Sheriff David Lain

Stand by our Sheriff

You know where he stands

Lain 2010

Dear Friends:

I have been blessed with a rewarding career in law enforcement that dates back to 1977 and I hope that I may continue to serve our community for another four years as your Sheriff.  We have all seen many changes in Porter County in recent years and I believe that it is important that the person holding this office has the knowledge and experience to meet future challenges effectively and economically.

The Sheriff must have the support of the department he leads. I am so proud of the men and women of the Porter County Sheriff’s Department for the sacrifices they make daily to provide the people of this county with superior public safety services. We have worked as a team to form a partnership with those we serve.

The result is a greater level of public trust that our staff is indeed working for them.

Four years ago I made a commitment to accomplish several goals. I vowed additional manpower dedicated to undercover drug taskforces operating in our county. We did that. I promised to create a separate cadre of officers to focus on traffic enforcement. Not only have we done that, but this year we will expand their mission to allow us to have a stronger and more immediate response to burglaries, vandalism, and other crimes that require urgent attention.

As promised, we met with every school superintendent in the county to discuss the issues that they felt important. The result was a county-wide forum held for parents and students to highlight solutions for combating internet predators, bullying, and prescription drug abuse by teens.

Later this year we will create a civilian Jail Advisory Board to assist our jail staff and me in finding the most effective and cost saving measures to run a facility the size of the Porter County Jail.

Several months ago I made headlines in the local print media for something I never publicized. Since taking office I have never requested nor accepted a salary increase for myself. I would rather devote my energy toward acquiring adequate compensation and equipment for the men and women who serve on the front lines.

Friends, you have rewarded me handsomely as your Sheriff through the many calls and letters of thanks and support for the service our personnel provide. I hope I can count you among those who wish to retain me in this office for the next four years. I am honored to serve you.

The campaign to achieve that will be both arduous and expensive. Anything that you can contribute to help raise the necessary funds to accomplish re-election would be greatly appreciated. Beyond financial assistance I will need sign locations, staffers who can write letters and make calls of support, and an army of people who will walk door-to-door with me.

Thank you again for helping me to keep Porter County a safe and wonderful place to live, work and play.

Sincerely, Sheriff David Lain
